Sunrise hike from Le Maïdo to Grand Bénare

The program includes an early wake-up call to climb the Grand Bord trail under a beautiful starry sky. The first light of day will gradually reveal the views this trail offers over Mafate, before arriving at Grand Bénare. It's time to take a break! For before your very eyes, a breathtaking landscape is revealed, with the cirque de Cilaos gradually coming into view. The return journey is a leisurely one along the Glacière trail, a place steeped in history, where chestnuts used to take refuge.

Alternative

For those who don't want to get up at the crack of dawn, Amandine and Manal suggest watching the sunrise from the Maïdo viewpoint and then climbing to the Grand Bénare.

Supervision

You will be guided by a qualified mountain leader.

Equipment required

• at least 2.5L of water,
• sturdy hiking boots,
• headlamp with spare batteries,
• good sun and mosquito protection, glasses and cap,
• warm clothing such as pants, fleece and rain jacket,
• light fleece,
• snacks and picnic.

Walking sticks are recommended (can be loaned subject to availability).

Important information

Trekking in a very hostile environment at an altitude of over 2000m, where vegetation is virtually non-existent. Uncertain weather, with rain replacing the sun in a matter of minutes and temperatures dropping below 5°C.
