A new private art venue has been open to the public in the Var since June 2023. The Musée du Niel, located on the water's edge of the Giens peninsula in Hyères, is dedicated to painting from the second half of the 20th century, with a new thematic exhibition every season from May to October, highlighting the particularly innovative artistic currents that still influence contemporary creation today.
Located at the Port du Niel on the Giens peninsula in Hyères, in a fully renovated 1960s villa with terraces overlooking the sea, the Musée du Niel is part of the Réseau Plein Sud , a network of the finest cultural and artistic sites in the South of France. From May to October, the Musée du Niel invites the public to discover a new exhibition each season, featuring some 50 different works each year.

Over 300 m2 of exhibition space, four brightly lit rooms enable visitors to discover and understand the main avant-garde movements that marked the second half of the 20th century in France.
" Painting often opens unexpected windows. I wanted to show works from a particularly liberating period in art history. The artists in the Musée du Niel collection had the audacity to offer a new vision of the world after the chaos of the Second World War. I hope that this impetus will have a particular impact on the younger generation, who are sometimes also battered by crises. Our museum would like to offer everyone a breathing space, as well as inspiration. " Jean-Noël Drouin, founder of the Musée du Niel.
To complete the visit, the museum store offers specialized books for art lovers, an art de vivre selection of handcrafted creations and creative notebooks for children.
The landscaped garden is freely accessible. The museum's terraces, with their exceptional views over the islands of the Parc national de Port-Cros, are the perfect place for a gourmet break throughout the day.
