Have you ever dreamt of discovering the abundant nature of the Forêts National Park? Its geographical position, climate and topography have made it a veritable reservoir of biodiversity. Large beech-oak forests, shady valleys, dry grasslands, water meadows and tufa wetlands offer a wide variety of landscapes that are home to an abundance of flora and fauna.
Exploring the Forêts National Park means discovering a dense and abundant natural environment. Its undergrowth offers hospitality to Red Deer, Roe Deer, Wild Boar, Badgers, Wildcats, bats and a host of other small animals: more than 3000 species can be found here. Beetles, insects, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates thrive in the typical limestone soil of the National Park, which boasts a forest of over 50 million trees. Some of these trees are over 300 years old and bear witness to the history of the region.
The emblematic Black Stork of the Forêts National Park comes to nest in the majestic trees in summer. This large migratory bird takes advantage of the canopy, while the undergrowth becomes covered in daffodils and spring snowflakes. Then comes the time when you can spot orchids, such as the Lady's Slipper, the largest orchid in Metropolitan France, another visual jewel of this wealth of flora. Why not take advantage of this magical place, just like the Black Stork ?
Be enchanted by the Amorey tufa formation
After visiting the village of Auberive, with its water meadows and climbing ivy, you would be well advised to continue towards the woods, where the Amorey natural tufa site is hidden. You'll hear plenty of birds calling as you go. Once there, let yourself be enchanted by the carpet of mosses, drowned in the soft light that filters through the treetops. Enjoy the ballet of the dragonflies that enchant this place and lose yourself for hours in its mysterious atmosphere.
The charm of the Butte de Taloison
Make room on your trip for one of the major natural sites on the Langres Plateau. The Butte de Taloison has long served as a grazing area for the local sheep and goats. This pastoral activity has maintained an exceptional ecosystem. Here, you'll find the Large Blue, a beautiful butterfly found nowhere else in the region, as well as the Blue winged Grasshopper and the Rattle Grasshopper , which have become very rare in the Haute-Marne. Once overgrown with scrub and partially invaded by pine trees, it is now protected in recognition of its incredible ecological, sensory... and visual value.
