Luca will take you to a place he knows perfectly and will present you the fascinating military history of the Castérino area, which is not only famous for its exceptional rock engravings...
The fortification system of the Vallo Alpino, built by the Italians in the 1930s, is a testimony of an architecture aimed at military defense in a very difficult period of history for Europe. On the Plan Tendasque you will discover various blockhouses built as part of a very complex fortification project. These fortifications are part of the second line of defense of the Vallo Alpino system. They meet very specific construction criteria and are made up of isolated blockhouses built in the middle of the mountains.
The hike, starting from the pretty hamlet of Castérino in the municipality of Tende, passes through the larch forest of the Fontanalbe Valley and arrives on a very panoramic karstic plateau, home to an interesting alpine fauna, composed of ibex, chamois, marmots and birds of the meadows and rocks.
The hike continues until the Baisse de Vallaurette. In the absence of snow this pass allows to pass very close to the archaeological site of the rupestral engravings of Fontanalbe.
