Visit to the Moulin de la Fleuristerie
Come and discover a craft and know-how unique in France, in the field of international haute couture.
A visit to the Moulin de la Fleuristerie will introduce you to the process of making handmade floral accessories for haute-couture. A voyage of discovery in the purest mill tradition. You'll be surprised by the history of the place and the ingenuity of the mill. Annette and Emmanuel Geoffroy will explain how flowers are made and the different uses of water power.
In Orges, a small village of 400 inhabitants nestled in the Haute-Marne National Forest Park, you'll find a unique craft site in France whose history began over 760 years ago: the Moulin de la Fleuristerie. Once used to produce flour, the Mill has reinvented itself over the centuries. Founded in 1994 by Annette and Emmanuel, ARTamin' perpetuates a unique French savoir-faire that began at the Moulin in 1903, and has been in operation for over 120 years: the creation of ornaments and artificial flowers for haute couture designers.
In this water-powered mill, which still turns its paddle wheel to keep the 19th-century machinery running, Annette carries out most of the many steps involved in making a flower entirely by hand. According to the wishes of her customers from all over the world, she prepares, cuts and dyes the yarns and fabrics using traditional techniques. Pistils, fruits, petals and leaves take shape to give life to floral creations, whether in the one-off pieces sold on the site, or in haute couture creations.
Awarded the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (Living Heritage Company) label in 2008, the Moulin de la Fleuristerie is a place where exchanges are encouraged, where a warm welcome is extended, and where thoughts intersect and invite hopes and dreams from all horizons. Whether you're interested in the creative process or the technical details, this friendly tour is sure to please everyone.
