Refuge of Nice

Following damage caused by storm Alex in early October 2020, the footbridge leading to the Nice refuge has been destroyed. For further information, visit the Mercantour National Park website under " Vigilance sentiers "

This is the ideal place to observe the great fauna of the Mercantour National Park, with ibex and chamois particularly familiar.

Christophe will welcome you with a cuisine based on organic or local farm produce.

The stay will allow you to regain your strength to hike the GR52, or survey the mountains towards Lac Long or the other refuges in the area.

"Come and discover or rediscover the magnificent Gordolasque valley, and why not stop off at the refuge for a blueberry tart, a meal, or even an overnight stay".

Access: Go through the village of Belvédère and follow the road to its end, at the parking du Countet.

From the Countet parking lot (1,690 m), take the signposted path on the right bank of the Gordolasque as far as marker 413. Cross the torrent to the right and follow the path uphill to marker 414. From here, ignore the Lac Autier path on the right and take the left-hand path up the steep ascent to the Mur des Italiens.

When you reach a large flat area (2010 m), cross to the other side of the torrent and continue uphill, carefully following the cairns and yellow marks. At marker 416, continue to the right, following the red and white markings of the GR, which skirts the Lac de la Fous before reaching the Refuge de Nice (2232 m).
