Beehive and nest box making - Faites pour Ailes

At Faites pour Ailes, bees, birds, bats, hedgehogs, insects and more will find a place to suit their needs.

Faites pour Ailes is a manufacturer of beehives and nesting boxes for bees, birds, bats, hedgehogs, insects, etc. based in Accous in the Aspe valley.

From design to production, Johann strives to be as environmentally-friendly as possible, sourcing locally to work in a short supply chain.

The woods used to design the hives and nesting boxes are fir, cypress, larch, etc... They are harvested in the western Pyrenees and cut at the local sawmill. Johann also recovers raw wood from the valley's waste disposal center. Even the supply of nails, screws and sheet metal is carefully considered, with some coming from a French factory and others from Europe. Johann is constantly on the lookout for suppliers who are as close as possible to his workshop.

Hives and nesting boxes are designed as standard or made-to-measure. Their interior space is always adapted to the fauna they house. Johann can also repair old hives and other objects that have become worn over time.

Johann's workshop is open by appointment, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. You can also ask Johann to take part in nest box-making workshops.

À la rencontre de...

Located in the heart of the Vallée d'Aspe, in Accous, Johann Lannegrand's "Faites pour Ailes" workshop is dedicated to the preservation of biodiversity. Here, Johann passionately makes handcrafted beehives and nesting boxes.

For the past few years, Johann has devoted himself to making bird nest boxes, small mammal nest boxes and beehives, using mainly local materials, notably wood from the valley sawmill.

I make my birdhouses and beehives in much the same way as I made my workshop. I started with the plans, and to design them, I based myself on the work of ornithologists. Then, based on this work, I created my own models, respecting the sizes of the chambers and openings so that they were perfectly adapted to the animals that were going to live in them. My nesting boxes are designed for small cavity-nesting and semi-cavity-nesting birds, as well as birds of prey, and I also make nesting boxes for hedgehogs and chiropterans.

He also offers nesting boxes in kit form for school groups, enabling children to make their own nesting boxes and make observations.

The idea behind my nesting boxes is to recreate the natural hiding places that animals used to find in the past, before we plastered walls or cut down old trees. This helps to bring biodiversity back close to our homes, creating a more interesting balance.

Johann joins Esprit parc national because he shares the park's values of preserving biodiversity.

Esprit parc national has enabled me to meet other craftsmen who share the same values as me. Today, I work with some of them, who are also members of the brand.
