Beekeepers in eastern Réunion, Christophe and Mélissa are true enthusiasts. At the gateway to the National Park, in La Caroline, Bras-Panon, the couple produce honey directly from the surrounding Bois de Couleur forest.
Christophe and Mélissa set up in 2017 on a plot of land in La Caroline, Bras-Panon, at the gateway to the National Park, with the desire from the outset to make honey. Lovers of nature and concerned about its preservation, it was an obvious choice for them to work with the forest that surrounds them. This forest is a Bois de Couleur forest, with native and endemic species such as Bois de Joli Coeur, Change-écorce, Vacoa des Hauts, Bois de Perroquet and Bois de Papaye, and it is this diversity of species that gives their honey and hive products their rich character.
List of labelled products National park spirit :
- From January to May, the honey is lighter in color, with a fruity taste,
- From September to December, the honey is darker, woody and subtle
You can find Christophe and Mélissa's products at the Saint André market on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, and at the Bras-Panon farmers' market on the 3rd Sunday.
A beekeeper in the east of La Réunion, Christophe Dalleau is a true enthusiast. At the gateway to La Reunion National Park, in La Caroline, Bras-Panon, he produces honey directly from the surrounding Bois de Couleur forest.
Our honey has many properties derived from the forest's endemic trees and medicinal plants. Without our bees, the forest we have today would not exist. They are essential.
Today I'm a farmer* and beekeeper by passion and commitment... I started out as a professional footballer, but a stroke on the pitch turned my whole life upside down. To rebuild my life, I had to dig deep inside myself...what I needed, what I wanted and how to do it.
And everything I needed in my second life to share, pass on and rebuild...I found in the Bois de Couleur forest.
*Christophe Dalleau is also an agroforestry producer of vanilla and cocoa.
