The Château de Montigny-sur-Aube, located in the National Forest Park, is an exceptional place where culture and heritage are combined with horticulture and market gardening.
Hidden behind high walls covered with a variety of espaliered fruit trees, the orchards and vegetable gardens boast a collection of some 350 varieties of fruit and vegetables, all organically grown.
Production is divided into 9 gardens with evocative names, such as the jardin des châssis, where some forty aromatic plants have found their place, the jardin des cordons, where apple trees and gariguettes go hand in hand, or the carré des fruits rouges...
The orchards and vegetable garden of the Château de Montigny-sur-Aube are recognized as one of the leading centres of the art of espalier trellising by France's Intangible Cultural Heritage. With its trellised fruit trees and climbing roses, its carefully tended squares, its conservatory orchard and the many flowers that adorn it, the whole is a marvel. Amateur gardeners will find plenty of ideas here, as everything is labelled and referenced. Beehives have been installed on the château's lawns. Honey from their bees is on sale at the entrance.
