Mr. and Mrs. Baladine became passionate about beekeeping 15 years ago. They first discovered the activity through a friend, then through training courses; but it was mainly by working with a veteran beekeeper from Guadeloupe that they learned to produce their own honey.
Over the years, they have gradually developed their small KABA MYEL GWADLOUP beekeeping farm, which now boasts 80 hives. Aware of the close link between the ecological quality of natural environments and the quality of beekeeping production, these beekeepers are constantly working to preserve pollinating insects in Guadeloupe. In particular, they take care to select the best possible sites for their bees, minimizing their impact during harvesting.
After harvesting, the honey is packaged by hand, combining extraction at the end of the day with storage in a stainless steel maturing tank in a climate-controlled room. KABA MYEL GWADLOUP has developed quality products that have become part of the Guadeloupe beekeeping family, nationally recognized for its expertise. Production is spread out over the year, depending on the type of honey.
From February to March, the hives are set up in Grande Terre on flat, low-moisture areas, to produce Campêche honey, which often wins awards in national competitions. Shortly after this first annual harvest comes all-flower honey made from fruit trees and wild species. Then, around Easter, the bees migrate to Basse-Terre, where the hives are located mainly in the mountains of the Côte sous-le-vent, in the communes of Deshaies and Pointe-Noire. Here, they first harvest forest honeys from the local Beech tree, Tendacayou flower honeys (also a prize-winner), then honeys from all types of flowers, varying according to the year, with Savonnette tree honeys predominating. Finally, at the end of June, we head back to Grande Terre, where the hives produce Suretier (jujube) honeys, the last bloom of the year. The bees then rest for two months before starting a new harvest season.
KABA MYEL GWADLOUP offers several products from the hive. Honey is sold in different volumes:
- all-flower honey, campêche, tendacayou, elderberry (jujube)
- propolis in alcoholic solution.
Other unmarked products: Beeswax candles, Honey cakes, Honey caramel.
Project: royal jelly and pollen.
